Brief Description: One of the best-recognized instruments in the area of religiosity and health is the Brief Multidimensional Measurement of Religiousness/Spirituality (BMMRS) developed by a team of researchers supported by the Fetzer Institute and the National Institute on Aging (Fetzer Institute/NIA, 1999). The researchers participating in this project recognized that R/S is a multidimensional construct and set out to identify its dimensions that are empirically and theoretically most closely connected with health outcomes. This resulted in the BMMRS containing 12 Dimensions (Daily Spiritual Experiences, Meaning, Values, Beliefs, Forgiveness, Private Religious Practices, Religious/Spiritual Coping, Religious Support, Religious/Spiritual History, Commitment, Organizational Religiousness, and Religious Preferences). The author(s) of each section considered their domain’s relationship to health outcomes through behavioral, social, psychological, and physiological pathways.

The measure can also be used just as subsections sine the overall scale is long.
